This 12-volt Orion-Tr Smart Charger is an adaptive 3-stage 12VDC-to-12VDC charger for use in vehicles like RVs or boats with dual battery systems where the alternator and starter battery are used for charging a lead acid or lithium-ion service battery. In order to prevent unwanted discharge of the starter battery, the Orion-Tr Smart Charger automatically shuts off when it detects that the vehicle's engine has stopped running.
The Orion Tr-Smart charger can be used for both 12V lead acid and 12V lithium batteries. With 30 amps of continuous output current, its 3-stage controlled charging algorithm is especially helpful for vehicles with lithium batteries because it protects the alternator from overloading from lithium batteries' low impedance.
Built-in Bluetooth allows touch-free monitoring and programming via the free VictronConnect app for Bluetooth-enabled iOS and Android devices. It can also be controlled remotely via a remote on/off switch.
Note: While the isolated version of this charger has four connection points, this is the non-isolated version and it has only three: incoming positive wire, outgoing positive wire, and a single negative wire common to both. This is because in most applications (for instance in an RV), the starter and service batteries share a chassis as a common ground.
