UL 9540 is the new safety standard for energy storage systems (ESS), focusing on fire safety. This standard comprises UL 1973-certified battery pack(s) and a UL 1741-certified inverter. UL 9540 certification isn't required in all states and jurisdictions yet, but is increasingly becoming so. Whether your locality requires it or not, using an energy storage system that conforms to UL 9540 is a good idea.
