Deep cycle lithium LFP batteries have been a revelation for solar energy storage. They're maintenance-free and able to cycle to 100% of their rated capacity, making them great for both full-time and intermittent use in demanding solar storage applications. And they're safe - deep cycle LFP batteries use a different chemistry (LiFePO4 or LFP for short) from the small lithium batteries in phones and tablets that can overheat and even catch fire. For more about LFP batteries, see our pros and cons and videos below.
In the long run - and if you're installing a renewable energy system, you are likely thinking long-term - lithium batteries offer the best lifetime cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) cycle and are our recommended way to go in most solar storage applications.
Note: the $/kWh cycle amounts listed below are based on the battery's regular price and an 80% depth of discharge.
