I like this little lamp. It’s great for recharging my cell phone. It’s hard for me to twist together to make the ‘puck’ which will be an issue when I take it camping. Overall a good product, though.
After reaching for out flashlights after a recent power outage I searched for something that was rechargeable. These solar lanterns were perfect. I leave them on my windowsill and they are always charged. I use them daily whether its to take the dogs out at night or to split firewood. The lantern works great and provides plenty of light. I bought two and liked them so much I purchased two more. I leave them in each bedroom in case of power outages which we have frequently especially in the winter. So far they have worked out great and I hope they hold up well to regular use. I highly recommend especially since it recharges itself and you don't need to worry about batteries.
In anticipation of my utilities being disconnected for non-payment, I needed a way to charge my mobile phone and find my way around the house. Also was a planned purchase to replace a heavy 6 volt florescent lantern for upcoming camping.
The order arrived swiftly. The puck came packaged in a typical hanging cardboard blister pack designed for display marketing. Provided was the HybridLight 'puck', a short USB to micro cable, and a brief owners manual. There are also instructions and explanations on the blister pack. The day it arrived, I had no access to grid power, as i had been turned off.
Amazingly, the puck arrived with a charge. I used it the first night for some reading on low brightness. The single power button cycles between low, high, and off. Three lights indicate low bright, high bright, or charge status. The next day was sunny, and i used to charge a mobile phone. This is when i discovered that the center LED charge indicator will flash red to indicate a low battery. However, the phone had been fully charged, so the puck must prioritize charging over storage during solar generation.
Several days later, I fully charged on the grid, which is indicated by the center light turning green.
There is a sturdy fold-out hook, that has not been used much, but was very handy in the tent while camping, and was also helpful as a handle to use as a bicycle lantern at night. As I write this, it has been almost two months, and have used the device almost every day. I have dropped the unit at least a dozen times without serious incident. (so far). Two drawbacks that I have experienced are; The unit is round and likes to roll off of hard surfaces if set on its side. When used as a lantern the accordion can make the unit unstable if not on a hard surface or if placed battery up.
Personally, I am very happy with the HybridLight, and look forward to testing it's longevity. I would strongly recommend for its ability to charge its self, durability, and versatility.
Great light for tent reading or outside. Recharges rapidly from the sun. IPhone recharging seems less than the maximum 2.4 amp , 5 VDC usb rate, but useful.
