Built in Australia with an award-winning, patented design, this firewood splitter is the safer, faster, easier way to make great kindling for a fire. To split a piece of wood, place it inside the 6½" diameter top ring and strike it with a hammer or mallet (3-lb size works great). A stationary cast iron wedge does most of the splitting work for you. It's a safer and easier alternative to splitting wood with an axe because there's no moving blade or sharp object passing by your hands. There are even bolt holes in the cast iron base for permanent mounting and maximum stability. An immensely useful off-grid heating accessory!
For larger pieces of firewood, try the King Size Kindling Cracker firewood splitter.
The Kindling Cracker is made from a single piece of cast iron and is durable enough to last for generations. The only maintenance you'll need to give it is a bit of brushing off. It derives its ingenuity from an unlikely source - a school-age student who was determined to avoid injuries from splitting firewood into kindling. The design began as a science fair project and is now a perennial award winner, from science fairs in New Zealand to regional and international recognition from Scientific American, International TeenBusiness, Google and more.
