Micro Inverters

A micro inverter converts DC electricity to AC at the level of the individual solar panel instead of the solar array as a whole. So for a micro inverter solar PV setup, you need one micro inverter for every module in the array.

So why would anyone want to buy multiple inverters instead of just one? Micro inverters can greatly increase the efficiency of a solar array when there are shading issues, or if a module fails. When solar panels are wired in a string, even a small amount of shade on one module in the string can disproportionately reduce the output of the whole array. With a micro inverter setup, each solar panel functions independently and with maximum power point tracking (MPPT), so there are more opportunities to maximize performance.
