Battery to Inverter Cables

Battery to inverter cables – along with battery to battery cables – are usually the largest electrical conductors in a renewable energy system. Battery-inverter cables must be able to handle high currents without much voltage loss.

Sizing of battery-inverter cables is based on the voltage of your deep cycle battery bank, your power inverter's continuous amperage rating, and the distance between those two components (which is ideally less than 10 feet). For help determining what you need, consult our wire sizing chart or call the experts at the Real Goods Tech Desk at 800-919-2400.

"A particular type and gauge (thickness) of wire is rated to carry a maximum electrical current. The NEC requires that we not exceed 80% of this current rating for continuous-duty applications."
