Battery Cables

As with battery to inverter cables, battery cables (or battery interconnection cables) must be able to handle high currents without much voltage loss as they are usually the largest electrical conductors in a renewable energy system.

Battery cables' wire size is determined by the voltage of your deep cycle batteries, the continuous amperage rating of your power inverter, and the distance between the two (ideally less than 10 feet). "It's much harder to stop a DC short circuit than it is to stop an AC short. In a severe DC short, popping open a circuit breaker or fuse may not stop the electrical flow; the current will simply arc across the gap and keep on cooking!
