USB & Car Charging
Charging your electronics via USB or 12-volt DC (car charging) provides an alternative to solar charging. USB charging is useful when the goal is to minimize the size of the spare battery you'll be using, like on hiking and climbing excursions. USB chargers are typically meant to charge from a solar panel or larger battery with USB output, and hold a charge for small devices like phones and GPS units in a more compact, lightweight body.
Car chargers are useful on road trips and when car camping, but some have been known to overcharge batteries when left plugged in more than a few hours after charging is complete.
